1. Mob Lynching Pains Me but Don't Insult Jharkhand: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, 26 June said the lynching of a young man by a mob in Jharkhand had pained him but said it was unfair to blame the entire state for it.

Breaking his silence on the crime which took place over a week ago, Modi, speaking in the Rajya Sabha, slammed the Congress for describing Jharkhand as the factory of mob lynching and said no one had the right to insult a state.

2. Assam NRC: 1 Lakh Names Included in Last Year’s List To Be Removed

An additional exclusion list – comprising the names of 1,02,462 persons – to the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published in Assam on Wednesday, 26 June.

The names found in this additional exclusion list were included in the draft NRC published on 30 July last year, but they have subsequently been found ineligible.

According to a statement issued by the state coordinator of NRC, the list has been published as per provisions of Clause 5 of the Schedule of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2003.

4. Home Minister Shah to Review Security, Tourism in Maiden J&K Visit

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday, 26 June, beginning his 2-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, where he will review the overall security situation of the state. He is also expected to specially focus on the security measures pertaining to the Amarnath Yatra.

He is scheduled to pay obeisance at the Amarnath cave shrine ahead of his Srinagar visit.

5. From Planning Balakot Strikes to Heading R&AW, Meet Samant Goel

India's foreign intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) has a new boss. Samant Goel, an IPS officer from the 1984 batch from the Punjab cadre, has been appointed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is set to take charge on 30 June.

Goel is widely known to be one of the chief architects of the Balakot air strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammed camps on 26 February. Before his new appointment, he was reportedly the man behind some of India’s most recent military and intelligence operations, especially the 2016 surgical strikes in Pakistan.

6.‘Iran Largest Terror Sponsor’: Pompeo at Briefing With Jaishankar

Addressing a joint media briefing after his meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday, 26 June, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the two discussed many of the outstanding issues that have arisen between the two countries.

"Both as countries and as foreign ministers, harmonising our interests and our views, that's really the task of diplomacy. Obviously from time to time in any relationship, specific issues will arise and I think we have discussed many of those issues,” Jaishankar said.
