1. LS to Debate No-Confidence Motion Against Modi Govt Tomorrow

The BJP on Thursday, 19 July, made light of the Congress's claim that the Opposition had the numbers to back its no-confidence motion against the government.

BJP sources told PTI the Narendra Modi-led government would get the support of 314 MPs in the Lower House, which has an effective strength of 533 at present.

The list of the 314 MPs, however, did not include the name of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who was also a BJP MP, they added.

The majority mark in the Lok Sabha currently is 267.

2. Women Have Fundamental Right to Enter Sabrimala Temple: SC

For two days in a row now, the Supreme Court reiterated that the fundamental right of freedom to practice religion is provided to "all persons" and the women have the right to enter and pray like men at the Sabrimala temple in Kerala.

"Can a religious practice run contrary to the constitutional mandate?"asked a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra during the hearing on the contentious issue relating to women in the menstruating age of 10 to 50 years being barred from entering the over 800-year-old shrine.

4. Win Gold, Qualify for Olympics: Indian Hockey Team’s Asiad Goal

The Indian men’s hockey team are set to defend their title at the Asian Games, starting 18 August in Jakarta. And while the squad recently returned home with a silver from the Champions Trophy in Netherlands, captain PR Sreejesh believes that the Asiad will pose a different kind of challenge for them.

“It’s a different tournament because in Champions Trophy we faced almost all the European teams, and all the top teams. Now when it comes to Asia, the game style is totally different. We met Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, but other than that we need to face teams like Korea and Malaysia,” PR Sreejesh, Indian Captain said.
