After great anticipation and confusion, BCCI on late Tuesday evening named Ravi Shastri as India’s new head coach. Zaheer Khan was named bowling coach and Rahul Dravid as batting consultant for overseas Tests.
BCCI’s acting President CK Khanna hailed the the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) – comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman – for their choice of mentors and said that a ‘golden period was ahead for Indian cricket’.
Appointed till the 2019 World Cup, Shastri is a veteran of 80 Tests and 150 ODIs. His first assignment as coach will be India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, comprising three Tests, five ODIs and one T20.
