Search operations are underway after an avalanche hit Ladakh’s Khardung La on Friday, 18 January, killing at least three and leaving seven people trapped under the snow.

On Thursday, the MeT department had issued a warning in nine districts of Kashmir asking tourists and locals to stay away from avalanche prone areas like Anantnag, Baramullah, Kulgam and Leh, and also store enough food and water.

Another spell of snow between 19 to 23 January is likely to hit Kashmir due to heavy precipitation, informs the MeT Department.

The valley has had four spells of snow in the month of January this year.
