Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan are all set to make their mark on screen with Beyond the Clouds. The film is special as it has been directed by world-renowned Iranian director Majid Majidi. The two actors are on a promotion spree these days and in a chat with The Quint, Ishaan and Malavika shared their experience of working with the Iranian director and getting into the skin of their characters in the film.
Beyond the Clouds is an Indian drama based on a relationship between 18 year-old Amir and his elder sister Tara. Amir, due to certain circumstances leaves his sister’s house and starts making a living himself on the streets of Mumbai. They meet again later and the film traces how Tara takes a strong stand for her brother Amir. Interestingly, Ishaan was required to lose 8 kg in a span of 12 days to play the character. And the young actor put his heart and soul into delivering a good performance. He said:
“I just spent as much time as I possibly could even on days I wasn’t required, just to see how Majidi Sir creates the world that he does, and understand the film as a whole.”Ishaan Khatter, Actor
Beyond the Clouds would mark Ishaan’s - who also happens to be Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother - debut in world movies, even as he prepares for his Bollywood debut with Dhadak alongside Janhvi Kapoor. Dhadak is the Hindi remake of Nagraj Manjule’s Marathi blockbuster Sairat (2016). Directed by Shashank Khaitan, and produced by Dharma Production and Zee Studios, Dhadak will be released on July 6.
Malavika Mohanan on the other hand is the daughter of cinematographer KU Mohanan, and has previously worked in Malayalam films.
Beyond the Clouds releases on 20 April in India.
