Looks like 2017 was the year of badminton in India. PV Sindhu won her Olympic silver at Rio in 2016, and expectations were high from Pullela Gopichand’s contingent, and did they deliver. Kidambi Srikanth became the first Indian player to win four Super Series titles in one season, Sindhu and Saina both bagged medals at the World Championships, and Sindhu ended the year with a silver at the World Super Series Finals.
Cricket’s habitual record-breaker Virat Kohli remained the cynosure of all eyes, however, young Prithvi Shaw also made a mark with five centuries in seven first-class matches. In addition, the Indian women’s cricket team grabbed the country’s attention as they reached the second-ever World Cup final.
