Patna HC Calls Bihar Prohibition ‘Illegal’; Shahabuddin's Bail Cancelled
The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail of controversial RJD leader Shahabuddin. The apex court had ordered that either the gangster-turned-politician should surrender or Bihar Police should take him in custody “forthwith”.
In response, Shahabuddin said he will comply with the Supreme Court’s orders and surrender. He added that his bail was cancelled because of public pressure.
In a setback to the Bihar government, the Patna high court struck down the Prohibition of Liquor Act in the state on Friday, saying it is ultra vires to the Constitution.
A Division Bench of the court comprising Chief Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari and Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh quashed the 5 April notification of the state government to stop consumption and sale of alcohol in the state.
Jayalalithaa Is Responding Well to Treatment, Says Apollo Hospital
Tamil Nadu has been jittery with anxiety as the state’s matriarch J Jayalalithaa has been in the hospital since eight days now, with “dehydration and fever.”
Among rumours of her passing away – the source of which cannot be identified – Apollo Hospitals has released a press statement saying Amma is responding well to her treatment and will need to be in the hospital for a few more days.
