Haunting footage of a five-year-old child’s rescue from the aftermath of an airstrike in Aleppo, Syria emerged on Thursday. The doctors identified the child as Omran Daqneesh.
He was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday night after an airstrike by Russian or government warplanes on the rebel-held neighborhood of Qaterji, said Dr Osama Abu al-Ezz.
An hour after his rescue, the building Omran was pulled out of, collapsed to rubble.
While eight people, including five children, died in the airstrike, Omran suffered head wounds but no brain injury, and was later discharged. His three siblings, ages 1, 6, and 11, and his mother and father were also rescued from the building.
The image of the stunned and weary-looking Omran, sitting in an ambulance caked with dust and blood on his face, captured the horror of war in the region.
The Russian government has agreed to the Untied Nation’s call for weekly ceasefire in the Syrian city.
