The parliamentary panel on information technology headed by Anurag Thakur on Tuesday, 5 February announced that it will be briefed by social media giant, Twitter India over the issue of Safeguarding Citizens Rights on Social/Online News Media Platforms.
The panel has also called representatives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to appear before it on the issue during its meeting scheduled for 11 February.
In a tweet, Thakur also sought views and suggestions from the general public on the matter.
Development Comes Amid Protest Against Twitter by Right Wing Group
The development comes against the backdrop of concerns over Twitter's alleged bias against right-wing groups on its platform.
Demonstrators, during a protest outside Twitter's office on 3 February, told news agency ANI that the social media giant has developed an anti-right wing attitude.
"They block our accounts and impressions of the tweets. We won't tolerate this, they will have to change their policy," they claimed.
