WhatsApp Status feature, which most of you didn’t even know about, is getting a mute option, so that users can avoid seeing them unnecessarily. This update was spotted through WABetainfo on Wednesday, and we can confirm its availability at our end as well.

The version of WhatsApp getting this feature seems to be 2.19.244 or later, and you can update this through the Google Play Store right away.

The ability to Mute is a power on most social media platforms that ensure you can avoid stumbling onto content from people who’re not really part of your close circuit. This has been made even better, as all the contacts you have muted, are now hidden in another column on the app.

As you can see here, the Muted updates section shows up the moment you mute any WhatsApp contact. This can be done by hard-pressing a contact and then you’re able to mute Status updates from them showing up.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp boasted about letting user send files with a limit up to 100MB.

While this is definitely more than that offered by Gmail, it doesn’t compare well with the 1.5GB file transfer limit on Telegram, which is another social messaging app on mobile and desktop.

And this fact was quickly pointed out by the Russia-based messaging client, which had a cheeky rebuttal to WhatsApp claims of being a more generous mailing alternative for file transfers.
