Apple is looking to launch a video-streaming platform of its own, according to rumours. The American tech giant is looking to release its streaming service before rivals Disney get theirs.

A story which was first published on The Information suggests that content creators have been asked to be ready for a mid-April launch date. Some of these content creators includes names like the Oprah Winfrey Network who have signed deals to create shows and movies for Apple’s content streaming platform.

Despite all these rumours, Apple still has to announce an official timeline for the release.

The company has not released any details on how much the service will cost and what it will be named. The Cupertino-based company could be looking to push out exclusive, prestige content in order to compete with other platforms.

If the rumours are true, then April is slotted to be a busy month considering Disney is also expected to showcase its standalone streaming app, Disney+. Though the service won’t be launched until the end of the year, it is possible that Disney might tease what subscribers can expect in terms of content.

Disney has a large library of television series and movies, which it can offer to its subscribers. These include some of the company’s biggest franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars series.

The current content streaming market is being dominated by major players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu. These streaming services not only offer good content but also attractive subscription packages. If Apple is to make its mark among these platforms, it’s got to think of something out-of-the-box, quite literally.
