Globally, the number of electric cars sold this year is expected to surge to 6,00,000, Xu Yanhua told an industry conference.

Safety and the quality of batteries should be carefully supervised, she added.

The industry saw explosive growth in the past two years, thanks to supportive government policies, including subsidies and tax cuts.

In the first 10 months of this year, sales of electric cars surged 290 per cent year-on-year to 1,71,145, according to the association’s data.
