Ravindra Jadeja is playing his first match of the 2019 ICC World Cup, replacing Mohammad Shami in the Indian XI for the game against Sri Lanka.
After 9 overs of pace, skipper Virat Kohli handed the ball to the all-rounder and in his first over itself, he delivered with the wicket of Kusal Mendis.
The Sri Lankan batsman stepped out of his crease to face the ball but his bat only met air as the waiting MS Dhoni at the back collected the ball with ease and dislodged the stumps. Out on 3 and Jadeja’s first 2019 ICC World Cup wicket.
Even as the all-rounder celebrated the wicket with his team-mates, the irony of the situation did not go unnoticed to Twitter users as Sanjay Manjrekar was commentating during that very point of the match.
“The ball turns and he gets a wicket... and it’s a good one. (This is a) tailor-made surface for Jadeja," says Manjrekar on Star Sports as Kumar Sangakkara takes over and praises the bowler: “What a crucial player for india. His economy rate of under 5 also helps him build pressure and pick wickets.”
On a replay of the wicket Manjrekar then continues on to say, “A beautiful delivery... teasing the batsman. This is something he is very good at as well. (He’s a ) street smart cricketer.”
While Twitter celebrates the third Sri Lankan wicket, they were also quick to point out the irony of it all as not long back, Manjrekar had said, ‘I am not a big fan of such bits and pieces cricketers’ when asked about Jadeja which had led the cricketer to lash out at Manjrekar on Twitter.
Jadeja and Manjrekar have been involved in a Twitter battle after the former cricketer called the all-rounder a “bits and pieces cricketer” during the TV broadcast.
The comment did not go down well with Jadeja, who took to Twitter to express his anger.
"Still I have played twice the number of matches you have played and I am still playing. Learn to respect people who have achieved. I have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea," Jadeja wrote.
