India lost to New Zealand by 18 runs in the first semi-final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Ravindra Jadeja’s late surge was not enough to get India over the line as the Kiwi’s sealed a spot in their second Cricket World Cup final on the trot.

Congress leader and party stalwart Rahul Gandhi congratulated Team India for putting up a “great fight”. He said that the team was “deserving of our love & respect”.

He also congratulated the New Zealand on their “well earned win, that gives them a place in the World Cup final.”

India gave tough fight to the Kiwi’s as they restricted them to 239 in the first innings. The Indian team, however, failed to capitalise on the bowling performance as they lost three early wickets. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were sent back to the dugout with just five runs on the scoreboard.

Jadeja made a late effort towards the end of the game as he scored 77 off 59 deliveries but was dismissed by New Zealand’s pace bowler Trent Boult.

At the end, with overcast conditions favouring the bowling side, New Zealand bowled India out for 221.
