Ten more wickets. India are just 10 more wickets away from winning a historic Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. But for that to happen, they must be allowed to play, which a lot of did not happen on the fourth day of their fourth and final Test against Australia on Sunday, 4 January.
After a spell of rain followed by ‘bad light’, a total of just 27.3 overs were bowled through the day, with play eventually being called off earlier than scheduled.
A furious Michael Clarke while commentating during the match, said that halting play so easily was ‘a disgrace to the game’ and also the ‘last thing Test cricket needs’. Another former Australia cricketer Stuart Clarke on ABC Grandstand said, “This is an embarrassment to the game. This is not acceptable. There’s not a person in this ground that can’t see the ball. The game cannot move forward until archaic rules like this are fixed”.
Bad Light? Really?
Twitterverse too had a thing or two to say regarding the light situation during the Sydney Test. “The umpires taking the players off for bad light when the lights are burning bright is ridiculous,” said a user while another asked whether fans would get a refund when there was no play due to bad light.
