He’s only just turned 20, but has been the talk of the cricket world for the past year or two. Some say Rashid Khan can do anything on a cricket field – and the Afghan star proved that’s not far from the truth by doing an MS Dhoni at the ongoing T10 League in Dubai.
Playing for Maratha Arabians against Pakhtoons on Wednesday, 29 November, Rashid pulled out the famed ‘helicopter shot’ while facing Pakistan’s Mohammad Irfan, leaving the 7’1” fast bowler in a daze and all viewers enthralled.
Rashid may be the world’s top-ranked bowler in T20Is, but is fast earning a reputation for his death overs batting – which is only set to burgeon further following his latest ‘hit’.
Cheekily tweeting the shot out from his Twitter handle, Rashid was magnanimous enough to remember the ‘inventor’ of the shot, tagging former India captain MS Dhoni in his post.
The strike was good enough to get a standing ovation from Virender Sehwag, who can be seen applauding the effort from the Maratha Arabians dugout. Sehwag is the franchise’s batting coach for the 2018 edition of the T10 League.
The maverick all-rounder’s sensational shot had more than a few from the cricket fraternity gushing, in particular his IPL franchise – Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The exchange with his SRH coach makes it clear Rashid’s heroics weren’t a one-off, but a well-practiced move!
While his IPL team will await more of the same in a few months’ time, several fellow cricketers hailed the Afghan 20-year-old’s effort on Twitter – including India’s Rishabh Pant.
With the IPL and the ICC World Cup slated in quick succession next summer, cricket lovers – in India, and worldwide – probably can’t wait to see what Rashid has in store come 2019!
