Andre Russell powered Kolkata Knight Riders to a six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad as he played a whirlwind knock of 49 runs at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Chasing 182 for victory, KKR were in a spot of bother early in their chase. They lost Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa early in the piece. Skipper Dinesh Karthik was also dismissed cheaply as Sunrisers tightened their grip on the game. Meanwhile Nitish Rana scored a gritty 68 but was dismissed at a crucial juncture by Rashid Khan.
The game turned for KKR when Andre Russell walked out to bat. He took five balls to get into his stride and started hitting the SRH bowlers all-around the park. Russel was at his lethal best as Kolkata scored 19 and 21 runs off the 18th and the 19th over respectively. Shubman Gill then joined Russell as the duo added an unbeaten 65-run stand to help their team win the game.
Russell shone with ball also as he was the best KKR bowler taking two wickets, including David Warner.
