MS Dhoni won’t be part of the playing XI for Chennai as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.
The Super Kings captain picked up a back spasm in the last game against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, stand-in skipper Suresh Raina said that it’s a precautionary measure and that he will be back for the next game.
This is only the fourth time in ten seasons for Chennai Super Kings that Dhoni hasn’t taken the field. The last time Dhoni had to sit out for Chennai was nine years back in 2010 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Chennai Super Kings with eight wins from nine matches is currently leading the points table. Another win will assure them a place in the play-offs.
MS Dhoni has been suffering from a back problem throughout this edition of IPL and it was very evident in the last game when they played against Kolkata at the Eden Gardens. Despite being a quick runner between wickets Dhoni struggled to take the two runs between the 22 yards,
Meanwhile, English cricketer Sam Billings gets a game as he replaces Dhoni. This will be his first game of the season. In another change, Karn Sharma, the leg-spinner replaces Mitchell Santner in the Chennai squad.
Twitter was stunned with the news of the former Indian skipper missing the game.
