How could cricket fans not feel surprised and amused when the BCCI announced that Parthiv Patel would be replacing the injured Wriddhiman Saha as weeketkeeper for India's third Test against England?

After all, Patel will be making a comeback to international cricket after four full years!

What’s more: He made his last Test cricket appearance way back in August 2008.

When Patel made his debut for the Indian Test team back in 2002 at the age of 17, he earned the distinction of being the youngest Test wicketkeeper. At 31, he has the potential to make cricket’s most dramatic comeback yet.

A lot seems to have happened since Patel’s last Test.

People haven’t refrained from making comments about his appearance either. Not fair, we must say!

And in today’s politically charged and ‘demonetised’ environment, how could Patel be spared?

But Patel’s own tweet was quite humble.

Patel has been selected over competitors Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and Naman Ojha. His selection comes on the back of a solid showing in the Ranji season.

Now ignoring all the jokes on Twitter, one shall hope that he will deliver a strong performance in the match against England.
