MC Mary Kom has wrapped up her first round match at the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championships, the final qualifying event for the Rio Olympics in the discipline.

The former five-time champion defeated Sweden’s Juliana Soderstrom 3-0 in a thoroughly one-sided contest despite her opponent holding a clear edge due to her height and reach advantage.

The London Games bronze-medallist from India though had worked on her reflexes ahead of the tournament and was extremely quick on her feet. Her right jabs doing the most damage.

Mary will next meet Germany’s Azize Nimani on Saturday, who took out Asian Games bronze-medallist Nandintsetseg Myagmardulam of Mongolia in her opener.

This is women’s boxing’s final Olympics qualifiers with a total of 12 spots available in 3 categories. Along with Mary, Sarita Devi and Pooja Rani are the other Indians hoping to make the cut.
