Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson, after his team’s victory over Kings XI Punjab seemed quite pleased with the team’s performance. Addressing the post-match press conference, Williamson said that every game is equally important so it’s nice to put out these kinds of performances.
He said that the win comes after a bit of strategising, playing Wriddhiman Saha in a supporting role with David Warner.
“We sat down and drew some combination around. We knew that Wriddhiman Saha has had success at the top of the order and he played brilliantly today in that supporting role with Warner so it was a fanstastic partnership that got us off to a really good start.”Kane Williamson, Captain, Sunrisers Hyderabad
Williamson also stressed on the importance of playing as a team. He said that that is what will be the most important for the next two games.
“We believe that for us, to play our best game is to play as a team and it’ll be important that we look to do that going into the next two games.”Kane Williamson
When asked what he feels about the urge to score runs, Williamson said that he has been trying to contribute to the team the best he can.
“You always want to score more runs but at the end of the day, you just try to contribute to the team the best you can and that has been my focus in every game i’ve played.”Kane Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad
When asked about the challenges being faced by the team and Williamson himself, as captain, he said that the biggest battle is from within.
“For us, the challenge is to put together a strong performance, perhaps something close to today, which was probably our best performance this season.”Kane Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad
Williamson also said that with the score they had in the first innings (more than 200 runs), it serves as a big positive going into the next innings, the bowling attack. He said that the bowling attack always backs the batting order and the KXIP match was a great performance. However, Williamson did admit to the fielding alpses his team is struggling with this season.
