Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is the talk of the cricket fraternity on Friday, 28 December after denting Australia on the third morning of the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne.
One particular delivery – a corker of a slower yorker to dismiss Shaun Marsh at the stroke of Lunch – got all of social media buzzing.
Bumrah followed that up with a reverse-swinging gem to knock down the stumps of Travis Head, and that was good enough for former Australia captain Michael Clarke to make a big prediction around the 25-year-old.
“In the next few months, Bumrah will be the number one bowler in all three formats.”Michael Clarke on Sony Pictures Network
Australia’s 2015 World Cup winning captain wasn’t the only one left gushing by Bumrah’s sensational spell either side of the lunch break on Day 3.
One Twitter user even went ahead and mixed an iconic piece of commentary over Bumrah’s delightful delivery.
A breakdown of the numbers – or the speed gun, to be precise – shows just how lethal the change of pace proved to be.
Remember, this is a man still in his first year of Test cricket. The ongoing Test is only the ninth of Bumrah’s career – provided the weight of runs from the Indian batsmen for the first time, India’s find of the year is proving to be a different beast!
