How many times have you gone to a chemist, asked for a contraceptive and gotten the horrified “Sex karta hai!” look from him/her?
An enterprising youth Sirhaan Seth tackled this very problem as he launched a service called SMS Contraceptive that delivers condoms, emergency contraceptive pills and lubes, straight to your home, in 30 minutes (or it’s free!).
Seth, who is just 18 years old, spoke to The Quint about the idea that is being very well received by the masses.
The transaction of getting a contraceptive becomes an awkward exchange for the customer, which is why the young entrepreneur felt the need to start this service.
In India, sex is a taboo, which makes getting contraception that much harder. You cannot get a condom, say at 3am, which is where we come in to deliver whatever you need, easily and efficiently.Sirhaan Seth
Making contraception as accessible as pizza, the entrepreneur said that young India is impatient, used to getting services “anytime and anywhere”, which is why his service aims to deliver in 30 minutes or less.
We have runners at various locations, covering a certain area so that they can deliver as quickly as possible.
What’s better is that they deliver round the clock, making them the real MVPs.
And like a true millennial service, you can call, WhatsApp or even Snapchat them to place your order.
Talking about how many people have already used the service, Seth said, “We went live on 10 September and already I have received calls from people as far as Bangalore, saying it’s high time you guys come here.”
On weekdays, they get about 3-4 orders placed, whereas over the weekend, they (obviously) get more orders at around 10-15.
The start-up is completely self funded and by the looks of it, one that is bound to do really well. Covering just Gurgaon for now, he’s looking at expanding to Delhi in about 2 weeks and subsequently cover all of Delhi-NCR.
Now don’t make love, without a glove!
