Press Release:

More Than 500 People Participated In IIT Gandhinagar's JEE Open House In Delhi, Mumbai And Gandhinagar

JEE Advanced qualified students and their parents took guidance during various interactive sessions with faculty, students, and alumni of IITGN

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) had organized JEE Open House sessions in Delhi, Mumbai and Gandhinagar for JEE Advanced qualified students and their parents to address the queries about IIT Admission, academic programs, and IIT Gandhinagar ecosystem. IITGN received an overwhelming response from the IIT aspirants. More than 500 participants, including students and their parents/ guardians attended these Open House sessions held on June 22, 2019 in Delhi and on June 23, 2019 in Gandhinagar and Mumbai.

In Delhi Open House, people had come from Delhi and nearby areas like Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Agra. Mumbai Open House had participants from Mumbai, its nearby towns and Nashik. Having a full day session with campus tour, Open House at IIT Gandhinagar campus received the most footfalls, with participants from all over the state and even from outside the state, including Ahmedabad, Baroda, Bharuch, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Mehsana, Palanpur, Patan, Surat, New Delhi, Chennai, Pune, and so on.

The students and their parents were most curious about branch selection, project works, research and higher studies opportunities, possibility of branch change at IITGN, dual major program, and other unique initiatives of IITGN. Director, IITGN, Prof Sudhir Jain and Dean (Academic Affairs), Dean (Student Affairs), Coordinator (Alumni Relations), Associate Dean (Student Welfare), along with faculty, students, and alumni of IITGN guided the participants in various sessions.

There were several questions about many of the unique aspects of IIT Gandhinagar including its flexible curriculum focussed on overall development and long-term success, its student centric approach, excellent facilities, and liberal financial aid programs. There were also several questions about IIT Gandhinagar’s liberal branch change policy and flexible options including dual majors, dual degrees, and minor programs.

It was shared that IITGN’s curriculum is futuristic, and focuses on the overall development of students. Flexibility is built into the curriculum with numerous electives, liberal branch change norms, various “minor” and “honours” programs, and a large number of short courses offered by guest scholars. Students can also opt for a Dual-Major Programme during their course of study to earn an additional BTech degree in a second branch of their choice. For example, a student in Chemical Engineering could opt for a second B.Tech. in Computer Science. Students can also choose to sign up for the Dual-Degree Programme that enables students to get an MTech or an MSc degree in a branch of their choice (possibly different from their BTech branch) in addition to the BTech degree usually by spending an additional year. Two separate degrees are awarded upon successful completion of the requirements of the two programmes.

Many participants appreciated IIT Gandhinagar’s student centric approach emphasizing student responsibility, independence, and physical and emotional wellbeing. IITGN prides itself in maintaining a ragging-free campus and a high level of ethical conduct in all academic and non academic matters.

Participants were also happy to hear about IIT Gandhinagar’s very liberal financial aid and scholarship programs ensure that no student feels disadvantaged due to their financial situation. IITGN provides very generous grants and loans as per the need of the student to support academic requirements, excellence activities (including international internship), and in some cases personal expenses. This includes a flat Rs. 2 Lakh per year (for 4 years) for all top 1000 JEE advanced rank holders and students who have represented India in one of the recognized international olympiads.

The excellent and diverse outcomes of our students including excellent placements, large proportion of students opting for higher studies, student innovations and patents and vibrant startup culture were also highlighted. Details about the flagship programs at IIT Gandhinagar such as the Foundation Program, Explorer Fellowship, Invent@IITGN were also provided.

The excellent facilities including the centrally air-conditioned hostels, award winning campus, recent recognition of Eat Right Campu and emphasis on quality food and health were heavily appreciated by the attendees.
