The tiff between CBI and Kolkata police was making headlines until the erstwhile king of good times, Vijay Mallya just grabbed it all. On 4 February, UK’s Home Secretary Sajid Javid approved the extradition of Vijay Mallya.

Mallya, the chairman of Kingfisher beer and former owner of Force India F1 team, quietly slipped out of India in 2016 after defaulting loans worth Rs 9,000 crores, and went to the UK where he now lives in a £11.5m mansion in the Hertfordshire village of Tewin. On his part, he did deny fleeing and said he made an “unconditional” offer to pay back the full sum.

It goes without saying that this is a big boost to India’s investigative agencies and our government especially since we’re so close to the general elections. Does this extradition request being approved mean he’s coming back to India already? Tune in to The Big Story podcast for more.
