Theatre and film actor Shaukat Kaifi passed away at her residence in Juhu, on 22 November. She was 91. Shabana Azmi’s mother, Shaukat Kaifi was the wife of noted Urdu poet and film lyricist Kaifi Azmi. She is best known for her work in M.S. Sathyu’s Garm Hava, Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan and Sagar Sathadi’s Bazaar. She was last seen in Saathiya (2002). Her prayer meet was attended by Neena Gupta, director Ashutosh Gowariker, Tisca Chopra, Anil Kapoor and other celebrities.
Earlier, several celebrities had come to pay their last respects to the actor from Amitabh Bachchan to Farhan Akhtar, Tabu, Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah and Nandita Das among others.
