More than 20 crore protesters took to the streets to protest against the 'repressive' policies for workers under the Modi government on the first day of the 48-hour Bharat Bandh.

As many as 10 Central trade unions have called for a Bharat Bandh on 8 and 9 January. Farmer unions like All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and Bhumi Adhikar Andolan are also participating in the strike.
