India has conveyed its "deep concerns" to the US government over recent hate crimes in the country. The past two weeks have witnessed three high-profile attacks on Indians in America, triggering a sentiment of fear and panic among the community.
The US State Department responded and expressed condolences over the incidents and assured “speedy justice”, the Indian embassy in Washington tweeted on Sunday night.
Harnish Patel, a 43-year-old Indian-origin store owner in the US was shot dead outside his home on Thursday.
39-year-old Sikh man, Deep Rai, was also shot outside his home by a partially-masked gunman who shouted "go back to your own country", in a suspected hate crime.
This comes only days after an engineer from India, Srinivas Kuchibhotla, was fatally shot in Kansas.
