Pakistan’s Apex Trade Body Hints at Reviewing Ties with India

FPCCI said that it was under no compulsion to continue ties with India if a tense situation prevails.

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday said it would consider the suspension of trade ties with India if the prevailing tense situation did not improve soon, according to a report by Dawn.

Abdul Rauf Alam, the FPCCI President said that Pakistan was under no compulsion to continue any business or trade relations with under the current hostile conditions.

He added that the entire Pakistani business community was united in taking any decision and at present, it is not possible to continue trade with India.

Alam pointed out the role of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said they were left with no choice but to promote trade relations with ECO and D-8 countries.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (EPEC) and Kalabagh dam have also faced controversies and losing such opportunities could be damaging for a country, said Alam. He added that while the CPEC was a game-changer, there was little awareness about the project.

His advice to the community was to work in unison and avoid politics of accusations in order to improve the image of the apex body of trade and industry.
