US President Donald Trump on Sunday, 30 June, compared his daughter Ivanka Trump and the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to the 'Beauty and the Beast'.

Addressing a gathering of United States officials stationed at the Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, Trump called his daughter and Pompeo on stage, proceeding to introduce them to the audience as the fictional characters from the fairytale.

“What a beautiful couple. Mike, Beauty and the Beast,” Trump said to his audience.

Both Pompeo and Trump laughed at the President's reference to them.

Ivanka Criticised For Trying to Speak to World Leaders at G20

On Saturday, the French Presidential Palace had released a brief clip of a discussion at the G20 summit in Osaka of four world leaders and Ivanka.

In the short video, IMF director Christine Lagarde, Canadian president Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron can be seen engaging in a conversation in which Ivanka attempts to take part.

In the video, Macron can be heard making a point about “social justice”, to which Ivanka, standing to his right, says either “it’s on” or “it’s all”.

May answers Macron, saying: “As soon as you start talking about the economic aspect of it though, a lot of people start listening who wouldn’t otherwise listen.”

Ivanka agrees and says: “And the same with the defence side I think, in terms of the whole sort of…”

However, standing to her right, Lagarde looks steadily at Trudeau, only giving Ivanka a sidelong glance.

Ivanka was criticised for her attempt to engage in this conversation, with New York Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeting that such behaviour “hurts our diplomatic standing”.

Ivanka, who serves as a domestic adviser to Trump, has been on the receiving end of criticism before as well, for attempting to stand in for Trump at international summits, The Guardian reported.

In 2018, she was criticised for briefly taking her father's seat during a G20 session in Hamburg.
