Indian Army Raised White Flag at LoC? No, It’s Fake News
A viral video falsely claims that Pakistan army killed 10 Indian Soldiers at the LoC
A video which has surfaced on social media claims that the Pakistan Army killed 10 Indian soldiers along the LoC, following which the Indian Army waved a white flag calling for truce to retrieve the bodies of the slain Jawans.
A white flag is raised by a side signalling truce or ceasefire.
The video has been repeatedly shared on Twitter and Facebook with captions hailing the victory of Pakistan army.
WHAT’S THE TRUTH?
While the video is legitimate, the claim that Indian Army waved white flag to retrieve the bodies of dead soldiers is misleading.
The Quint could verify that the video is from Hajipur Sector in PoK and trace it back to 14 September 2019. The video is actually of the Pakistan Army waving white flag to retrieve the body of 2 of its soldiers who were killed by the Indian Army in retaliation to unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan.
On conducting a reverse search using keywords we found reports by various media outlets related to the incident.
We also came across a report by India Today which claimed that as per sources in the Army, soldier Sepoy Ghulam Rasool of the Pakistan Army from Bahawalnagar in Pakistan’s Punjab was killed in retaliatory firing by India on the intervening night of September 10 and 11.
