#Charcha2020: Future of the Urban Informal Economy

The novel coronavirus has affected migrant workers in an unprecedented way. It has become more important than ever to understand the needs of urban informal workers to serve them better during and post COVID-19 pandemic. Their contribution to our economy is huge and all stakeholders need to come together to plan out a strategy for the future of migrant workers and the overall informal sector.

The/Nudge Foundation is hosting '#charcha2020' from 14 May to 16 May - Where thinkers, researchers, practitioners, enablers, policymakers, communicators, philanthropists and community leaders are coming together to discuss 'The urban informal economy'.

On Friday, 15 May, 'Improving affordable urban housing: community needs and state response' and 'Prepared communities for resilient futures' were being discussed. Watch the session here :

Improving affordable urban housing: community needs and state response

Housing is a critical urban service for informal workers and their families. Unfortunately, delivery of this service is patchy at best and awful at worst. This session explored how down top approaches can be built and can replace traditional top down ones. It will also explore the role of communities and technology in ensuring a superior housing experience for the urban poor.

'Voices from the community' and 'Migrant Workers: How many are there, where are their homes?' were the discussions on 14 May. Watch here:
