Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) Chief Upendra Kushwaha resigned as a Union minister and left the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Monday, 10 December.

In a press conference, the RLSP chief said that after becoming the prime minister, Narendra Modi did not meet the expectations of the people of Bihar. He also said that the ruling party is implementing the RSS’ agenda while being in power.

Education, hygiene is poor in the state and the social justice that was promoted so much has also not been delivered.

This comes a day ahead of the start of the Parliament’s Winter Session, triggering a realignment of political equations in Bihar.

An RLSP leader had on Monday told PTI that Kushwaha would likely announce that he would be parting ways with the BJP at the same time as quitting as a Union minister.

“Kushwaha is likely to announce his parting of ways with the BJP today. He will also quit as a Union minister.”

The RLSP chief has been targeting the BJP and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a key ally of the ruling party, for weeks.

He has been upset with the BJP after it asserted that the RLSP would not be given more than two seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, even as it went out of way to accommodate Kumar by agreeing that the saffron party and the JD(U) would fight an equal number of seats.

The RLSP may join hands with the Opposition, which includes Lalu Prasad's RJD and the Congress.
