Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led government on Friday, 16 August, calling it a “fascist, Hindu supremacist” regime, and warned about the use of force against the will of people.

“The fascist, Hindu Supremacist Modi Govt should know that while armies, militants & terrorists can be defeated by superior forces; history tells us that when a nation unites in a freedom struggle & does not fear death, no force can stop it from achieving its goal,” Khan tweeted.

Criticising the “Hindutva exclusivist creed of the Modi-led government,” Khan said it will “fail miserably in its attempt to smother the Kashmiri liberation struggle”.

‘Will World Witness Another Ethnic Cleansing of Muslims?’

Khan, in an earlier response, had slammed the deployment of extra troops and the communication blockade in the Valley, likening it to “Modi's earlier ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Gujarat.”

“Will world silently witness another Srebrenica-type massacre & ethnic cleansing of Muslims in IOK?” Khan questioned, warning the international community of “severe repercussions.”

‘Concentrate on Making Your Democracy More Stronger’, Says Tweeple

Former Supreme Court Judge Markandey Katju, in a satirical tweet on Friday, said “Well done skipper!” He also congratulated Imran Khan for “successfully diverting attention from real problems facing Pakistan to Kashmir”.

“No Pakistanis will go to Kashmir to fight for azadi (freedom). They will sit comfortably in their houses and eat biryani, while preaching to others to become shaheed (martyr),” Katju said in a series of tweets.

Film writer and director Ravi Rai, on the other hand, questioned the Pakistani PM on the Rohingya crisis and China’s reported ‘crackdown’ on the Uighurs. In a tweet addressed to Khan, Rai wrote: “What ethnic cleansing are you talking about? What did you do to Burma when the Rohingyas were thrown out? What (do) you tell China when the Uighurs are being treated worst than worms? You do nothing when Saudi UAE throw Pakistanis everyday? Concentrate on Naan roti.”

Ravi Rana, another twitter user, asked Imran Khan to “Concentrate on making your Democracy more stronger.”

“PM Modi never talks about you, but you keep on talking about him day and night. Grow up Captain! Stop taking political mileage by criticising others,” he said.

BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal said he was “saddened” by Imran Khan’s “diatribe against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India”.

“You were a(n) international superstar and icon, liberal and educated, you know it is good for Kashmir and the world, had you been pragmatic and supported us, world would have appreciated you but alas!”Mittal wrote in a tweet.

The Pakistan Prime Minister's outburst came ahead of the rare meeting of the UN Security Council on Kashmir after India effectively revoked the special status conferred to Jammu and Kashmir, sparking a row with the neighbouring country.

Poland, which currently holds the Council's rotating presidency, listed the matter for discussion at 10:00 local time (7:30 pm IST).

Earlier, Pakistan had written to Poland on this issue. After Pakistan, China asked for “closed consultations” as well in the UN Security Council to discuss the Kashmir issue.

“China asked for closed consultations on the Security Council agenda item ‘India Pakistan Question’. The request was in reference to the Pakistani letter to Security Council President,” a top diplomat told AFP.
