Congress Lok Sabha MP from Bihar's Kishanganj constituency Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque Qasmi passed away on Friday, 7 December. Qasmi reportedly suffered a heart attack in the early hours of the day, The Indian Express reported.
A renowned Islamic scholar, Qasmi (76) was elected to the constituency in the 2009 general elections. He defeated BJP's Dilip Kumar Jaiswal with more than 1 lakh votes to to be re-elected in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Qasmi was a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board as well as the president of the All India Milli Council.
He is survived by two sons and three daughters.
