The Congress on Friday, 16 February, alleged that the amount of fraud committed by Nirav Modi at the Punjab National Bank has peaked to over Rs 21,000 crore from the reported Rs 11,300 crore.
In a press conference at the party headquarters in Delhi, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala mocked the Centre’s scheme for regional air connectivity, saying the Narendra Modi government had given a new meaning to the word ‘udaan.’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), responding to the Opposition’s allegations on Nirav Modi, said that the scam had originally started in 2011 at a time when the country was under the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) regime.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the it was the BJP regime which had brought the scam to light.
The scam, which has come to light, is a scam of the UPA government. This started during the UPA’s reign in 2011. It is the alertness of the NDA government which has brought this scam to light. Javadekar added that the BJP government had acted swiftly in light of the scam by revoking the passports of the defaulters as soon as the matter had come to notice.
