Terming the present Modi regime as the most anti-farmer govt ever, Yogendra Yadav said that "Kisan Mukti March" is for the 'Mukti' or liberation of farmers from the spectre of suicides, from various forms of exploitation propagated by the state and from organised loot and plunder.

“This is a scandal in this country. The government has declared MSP of Rs 6,975, an absolute bare minimum that the farmer deserves. Govt’s own website reports that only Rs 4,200 rupees is the price a farmer actually gets. No one talks about it. As for Bajra in Rajasthan, despite the elections, the farmer is getting Rs 650 less than the official price.”

He also talks about the two bills that farmers are here for:

1. A guarantee of remunerative prices to the farmer

“Let us have a law that says – your cost as determined by the govt + 50% is where it will be fixed. And once the govt declares the minimum support price then getting it should be your legal entitlement. If you don’t get it, then you will be entitled for compensation.”

2. Loan waivers for farmers

“We are proposing a one-time waiver, which is the kind of thing routinely given to industries. We are saying give farmers assured income and wipe out their loan once so that they can make a fresh start.”

He said he recently visited a village in Haryana where a farmer committed suicide over a loan of Rs 2.8 lakh, of which Rs 1 lakh was interest. “Can we not do something about this?” he asks.

“We have invited political parties across the spectrum, with just one condition, only those parties who are willing to support the two bills for which we have come here, they would be given stage,” he added.
