Addressing India's distressed farmers directly from Parliament, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday, 18 December, that he will not let Prime Minister Narendra Modi sleep until all farms loans have been waived.

In a stinging attack on what he described as crony capitalism, Gandhi said the government has turned a blind eye to the loans given to 15 top industrialists of the country, including Anil Ambani, but has made no effort to alleviate the woes of the farmers in the last four years.

“We promised to waive loans in 10 days. In two states, we did it in six hours,” Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament.

"We will not let PM Modi sleep until loans of all farmers are waived," the Congress president said.

‘Typos Will Soon Emerge in Everything’

Gandhi also said that ‘typos’ will soon emerge in everything – be it JPC, Rafale, farm loan waivers, or demonetisation.

He was referring to the "factual correction" the government has sought in the Supreme Court verdict on the Rafale deal.

“People have been lied to, farmers and small traders are being looted. Demonetisation is the biggest scam in the world,” Gandhi added.

The Congress president also said that the PM had a choice between demonetisation and loan waiver but he chose the former and “gave all the money to his industrialist friends”.

“Demonetisation is the biggest scam in the world,” he added.

Earlier, hours after taking oath of office on Monday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath had cleared the proposal of waiving farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh as promised by Gandhi ahead of the Assembly polls.

Echoing similar claims made by his Madhya Pradesh counterpart, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at a rally announced that his government will waive short-term agricultural loans of farmers, fulfilling a similar promise made by the Congress.

‘Did you see, the work has begun,’ remarked a beaming Congress president Rahul Gandhi while giving a brief reply to journalists outside Parliament.

Exuding confidence, Gandhi said, as per ANI: "Dekha aapne, dekha, aapne dekha. Shuru ho gaya na kaam (Did you see, the work has already begun)."
