The mining mafia operating in Uttarakhand has threatened trainee IFS officer Kalyani Bisht with murder if she refuses to end her enquiries into their activities.

We received information that illegal mining was taking place, so, we took a flying squad and a range squad to investigate. When we reached there, around seven trucks were there which fled on our arrival. We started following one truck, but a large number of people, who had covered their faces, stopped us with their swords. They warned us that if we were to come back, they would kill us.

“Since we were outnumbered, we didn’t argue. It will be difficult to continue to work like this, especially since our ground staff gets very frightened,” she added.

As per reports, two people have been arrested in connection with the case, though the main accused is still at large.

This incident takes place soon after IAS officer D K Ravi, who took on the sand mafia in Karnataka’s Kolar District, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home in Bengaluru.
