Varsha Sahu, who kidnapped her lover at gunpoint on his wedding night, has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police in Bundelkhand on 17 May as per NDTV report. She was arrested when the bride’s family registered a complaint.

As per the eye-witness accounts, Varsha had arrived in a SUV on the night of the wedding, along with two men. She held a gun to the groom, Ashok Yadav’s head and claimed that he loved her and was betraying her by marrying someone else. She said that she would not allow it to happen and led the groom away from the mandap.

Though even the police seem impressed by Varsha’s act, she has now denied that she kidnapped Ashok on gunpoint as per the report.

Post her arrest, Varsha said that she did not go to the wedding with a pistol and that all eye-witness stories were fabricated. She also claimed that Ashok came with her voluntarily and not by force. She alleged that Ashok ‘knocked on her car and came willingly’ on the night on his wedding.

Police said that Ashok Yadav was still missing.

Varsha and Ashok had met and fell in love eight years ago and were allegedly already married secretly. Varsha alleged that Ashok was being forced into marrying some other girl by his family and that he was not happy with the arrangement. She also alleged that the girl’s family knew about Varsha but still proceeded with the wedding.

The police confirmed certain parts of Varsha’s story that they did indeed meet and fall in love eight years ago and also that Ashok was not ready to marry another woman.
