1. Two Uncles Held Guilty of Raping Niece

The Sessions court in Chandigarh on Tuesday convicted the two uncles of a 10-year-old girl they had raped on multiple occasions. Both convicts are brothers. One of the convicts had fathered the girl’s child, which was recently proved in the DNA-examination report given by forensic experts. The conviction was pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge, Poonam R Joshi. The quantum of sentence will be given on 2 November.

2. Vasai Man Arrested for Stalking and Molesting Woman Constable

A woman constable returning from work was stalked and molested by a man outside Vasai station on Monday. A traffic constable who tried to intervene was also assaulted by the accused, Kishore Rathod (40), who was later arrested. The police filed a case of molestation against Rathod, a Vasai resident.

The complainant was waiting for her husband at Anand Nagar outside Vasai station at 8:15 pm when the incident took place. In her complaint, she said Rathod made obscene gestures at her. When she moved away, he molested and followed her. A traffic constable who was on duty tried to intervene but Rathod assaulted him. The cops along with the public nabbed Rathod.

3. Duo Stabs ATM Cash Van Staffer, Flees with Rs 18.5 Lakh

It was 6:30am on Monday when two employees of Secure Value, a cash-logistics firm, were walking towards an ICICI ATM a few metres from Jalahalli Cross on S Mukherjee Road.

Sagar and Prasanna Shekhar were carrying a cash bag with Rs 18.5 lakh, and their company vehicle loaded with Rs 1.26 crore waited for them. The duo was almost at the ATM's doorstep when a black Bajaj Pulsar-220CC stopped near Sagar.

4. Two Arrested for Assaulting Mumbai Contractor, Firing in the Air

Two men were arrested for allegedly assaulting a 35-year-old contractor in Titwala near Kalyan on Monday. In his complaint, the contractor, Santosh Gondhali, said Ajay Mhaskar and Vijay Shinde, both in their 30s, also fired in the air.

He also alleged that Mhaskar and Shinde assaulted him at the behest of a history sheeter, Sunil Dhumal, who was recently released from jail. Dhumal was charged under stringent MCOCA charges. The police suspect that the incident was a fallout of past rivalry between Dhumal and Gondhali.

5. Professor Chargesheeted for Sexually Harassing Principal

Chandigarh Police on Tuesday submitted a chargesheet against a Panjab University Senator and professor at Punjabi University, Patiala, allegedly for sexually harassing the principal of a college in Moga.

The chargesheet was submitted against the accused, Professor Harjodh Singh (51), under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 354A (sexual harassment), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. The chargesheet was submitted in the court of Civil Judge Jagmeet Singh.

6. B Tech Student Commits Suicide in Greater Noida

A 22-year old B Tech student allegedly committed suicide at his rented accommodation in Sector Beta II in Greater Noida. The deceased Vijendra Momjajam was a native of Imphal. He was a student of B Tech civil engineering at IILM Institute.

Police said that Vijendra lived with two other friends on a rented accommodation in Sector Beta II. "All the three friends had left for Delhi on Diwali vacation. Vijendra had returned to his accommodation a few days ago while his friends stayed in Delhi," said police.

7. Patiala Police Arrest 2 Student Party Leaders for Providing Drugs, Money to Gangsters

Two top leaders of Gandhi Group Students Union (GGSU) — which derives its name from Rupinder Gandhi, a slain campus leader who had a criminal record — were arrested by the police on charges of providing drugs and money to gangsters, from a dhaba near Rajpura on Tuesday. They are Armandeep Singh Cheema of Patiala, who is president of the GGSU’s Chandigarh campus unit of Panjab University, and Harman Singh Virk of Samana, who is chief patron of the union.

Police also claimed recovery of 700 grams of drug powder and two suspicious passports from the two men, who actively participated in recent student council elections at PU in Chandigarh.

8. Spurned Lover, 23, Stalks & Abuses Women on Facebook; Held

Rachakonda police have arrested a pharmacist for stalking and sending abusive messages to a women's rights activist on social media. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim in her 40s, Cyber crime police arrested M Durga Prasad, 23, from his residence at Adarsh Nagar on Sunday. The victim alleged that someone using a pseudonym, Harika Reddy, on Facebook was sending her abusive, vulgar content through messages and making threatening phone calls through the app.

9. Class XI Student Held for Allegedly Holding a Class VI Student Captive, Attempting Rape

A class XI student has been arrested by the Jewar police for allegedly kidnapping a class VI student, holding her captive in a stable and attempting rape, police said on 31 October.

"On the complaint of a relative of the victim, the accused boy has been arrested," said Jewar police station SHO Rajpal Singh Tomar.

The 12-year-old girl had gone to a market for shopping on Sunday afternoon.

It is alleged that her neighbour, also a minor, forcibly took her to his home and held her captive in a stable meant for animals, a police official said.

On Monday, when the parents of the girl lodged a missing complaint, the accused set her free, he said.
