Thanks to a technical snag, hundreds of Air India crew members who had retired or had quit the airline have been receiving messages from the airline’s automated cabin crew management system, The Times of India reported.

An older version of CMS which was no longer in use but had numbers of ex-employees, had been wrongly used, causing the inadvertent error, the AI spokesman told TOI.

With rostering being handled by the management system, the systemic error swelled the inboxes of both former and now-deceased crew members with duty messages.

Meera Bhatia, a former airline hostess had received almost 40 mails in a duration of 48 hours with the changes in flight schedule that she had to operate.

The ex-employees apprised authorities of the error. In-service crew were also wrongly informed of the change in flight timings. But since a few were informed, major flights remain unaffected, the daily reported.

“Dear crew, due to system updation, automatic email/notification has been generated. You are requested to ignore the same and follow the flight assignment as per schedule.

However, the snag was resolved on Friday morning,” said the spokesman confirmed to TOI.

The reports of the glitch comes after reported malpractices in the rostering of pilots. Quoting sources, the TOI report stated that rosters are being changed at the insistence of the pilots who mutually decide the timings of flight duties.

Pilots were allegedly using flexibility in flying hours to cash in on extra allowances, the daily reported.
