Two head constables and three Special Police Officers were suspended and dismissed respectively in Haryana's Faridabad after a video of them beating up a woman with a belt surfaced on the internet on Monday, 27 May.

On Tuesday, 28 May, the five policemen have been granted bail by a local court in connection with the case.

In a video posted on Twitter, where the Haryana Police was tagged, the woman can be seen being interrogated by three policemen, out of whom two are wearing plain clothes and one is in uniform.

One of them can be seen hitting the woman with a belt as she is giving information to them. She can be heard giving out a phone number while pleading she does not have more information. However, the policemen tell her that they do not believe her and hit her with the belt.

According to The Hindu, the incident dates back to October last year. The police team at Adarsh Nagar Police Station were tipped off about a couple indulging in an illegal act in a park. They raided the couple and caught the woman while the man managed to escape.

The cops in the video were identified as Head Constables Baldev and Rohit and SPOs Krishna, Harpal and Dinesh. A case has been registered against them on charges of causing hurt and outraging the modesty of a woman.

Faridabad Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar took cognisance of the video, saying the policemen had acted against the law and brought bad name to force.

He said that interrogation should have been carried out in the presence of a woman officer.

The efforts to contact the woman in the video are on, said Faridabad Police spokesperson Sube Singh, the report added.
