Sonia Gandhi, with other Congress leaders, took out a march today from the AICC headquarters to the residence of Manmohan Singh, to express solidarity with the former Prime Minister, who has been summoned as an accused by a court in a coal scam case.

Leading the march with CWC members, party MPs and other office bearers, party President Sonia Gandhi said:

We are here to offer unstinted support and express solidarity with Manmohan Singh. We will fight with all legal means at our command, I am sure we will be vindicated.

Manmohan Singh had yesterday expressed confidence that he will prove his innocence in a fair trial:

Of course, I am upset but this is part of life. I have always said I am open for legal scrutiny...I am sure the truth will prevail and I will get a chance to put forward my case with all the facts.

A special court has summoned Manmohan Singh along with industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, ex-coal secretary PC Parakh and three others as accused in a case pertaining to allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha in 2005. Singh has been asked to appear before the court on April 8.
