A day after the video of a woman expressing her anguish over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir to Rahul Gandhi went viral, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday, 25 August, tweeted saying that such voices are being ‘silenced in name of nationalism’.

In the video that Priyanka referred to, a woman can be seen speaking to Rahul Gandhi, animatedly detailing about the problems that people in Kashmir are facing. A delegation of opposition leaders, of which Rahul was a part of, was sent back from Srinagar on Saturday.

In another related tweet, Priyanka termed ‘shutting down of all democratic rights’ in Kashmir as ‘political’ and ‘anti national’. She also asserted that the Congress will not stop raising its voice against it.

The opposition delegation's aborted visit came a day after the Jammu and Kashmir government issued a statement asking political leaders not to visit the Valley as it would disturb the gradual restoration of peace and normal life.

Asked about the administration's decision to not allow opposition leaders to visit the Valley, J&K Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal had told reporters Saturday evening that their priority is to maintain security and law and order at a time when the threat of cross-border terrorism continues to exist.

"They had been requested to not visit the Valley," he had said.
