India’s Daughter, the documentary based on the December 16 gang-rape in Delhi was supposed to be telecast simultaneously across many TV stations in various countries on Sunday, March 8, also International Women’s Day.
But a high-decibel campaign against the documentary led by top journalists led the government to ban its broadcast.
In India, NDTV in partnership with BBC, was supposed to telecast the documentary on March 8, 2015 between 9 to 10 pm.
But with a court injunction stopping its telecast, NDTV chose to protest in a unique way. Between 9 and 10 pm, the channel displayed a single graphic plate accompanied by just silence. NDTV called it their tribute to ‘India’s Daughter.’
Many on social media called it a powerful protest, the only one capable of silencing the high-decibel shouting against the telecast of the documentary.
