Old and new currency is being seized along with property and bullion in all parts of the country a month after demonetisation was announced.

Over a crore has been seized in IT raids from Andhra Pradesh, Noida and Amritsar since Saturday evening.

1.170 kg gold worth Rs 32 lakh and Rs 2.77 lakh cash in old demonetised notes seized from a passenger at Delhi's IGI airport on Sunday. The passenger has been arrested.

Hyderabad

On 16 December night at Telugu Academy in Hyderabad, the IT team intercepted certain persons, who then ran into an apartment nearby.

A search of the apartment led to a recovery of Rs 36 lakh in cash, all in Rs 2,000 notes. The source of the money is being probed.

On 17 December, the I-T team with police intercepted a speeding two-wheeler at Tank Bund.

Rs 30 lakh in Rs 2,000 notes was found with 2 people. Further investigations are underway.

Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Anti Corruption Department conducted a raid at premises related to K Lakshman Bhaskar, Additional Excise Commissioner, on Sunday.

Over 250 property documents of 2 flats, 9 house sites, 4.5 acres agricultural land, Rs 7 lakh cash, and 2 kg gold, 40-50 kg silver were recovered.

Search for other items and cash is still on.

New currency worth Rs 12 lakhs, old currency worth Rs 3 lakhs and 600 gm heroin has been seized in Amritsar by the counter-intelligence unit on Sunday.

Noida

Rs 18 lakh in new currency notes have been seized from Sector 57 here and three men have been arrested in connection to it.

The three accused – Vinay Kumar from Jind, and Mahendra Kumar and Praveen Kumar from Hisar – were arrested last evening by a team of Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad and Income Tax Department.

The team searched the car of the accused following which Rs 18 lakh in new currency notes of Rs 2,000 was found.

No counterfeit or old currency notes were found. The car has also been impounded, the DSP said.
