This is not the first time that Natarajan has been hospitalised this year. According to sources, his blood pressure had shot up and he was rushed to the Apollo Hospital on Greams road on 5 February.

Natarajan had joined the AIADMK when MGR was alive, but was banished by Jayalalithaa from all centres of power and her Poes Garden residence.

Days after the former Chief Minister's death on 5 December, 2016, Natarajan had publicly claimed that even an ordinary person can take the party forward.

Since the death of Jayalalithaa and in the political turmoil which has followed in the state of Tamil Nadu, Natarajan has not been outspoken but is believed to have pulled strings to get political winds to shift in favour of the Sasikala family.
