As bizarre as it may sound, a hospital in Jaipur is using astrology to give medical diagnoses. To be precise, it looks at the kundli aka ‘birth horoscope’ of a patient to ascertain the disease.
Unique Sangeeta Memorial Hospital uses astrology, as it allegedly helps in “faster diagnosis process” and “provides psychological counselling to the patients”.
How Does This Work?
Talking to ANI, astrologer Akhilesh Sharma said:
“We collect the date, place, time and month of birth of the patients, and draw up our diagnosis. Our diagnosis is then compared with the doctor’s diagnosis.”
The astrologer claims that they can predict how long they will take to cure the disease, what kind of medication is required to cure it, and be able to say whether the patient will survive.
The Hospital supposedly has medical doctors on hand, who provide treatment based on the astrologers’ diagnoses. Allegedly, the astrologers’ diagnoses have been cross-checked using doctors’ medical diagnoses of patients.
Sharma further claimed that the astrologers do not interfere in the treatment process – and that that process is done with ‘advanced medical technology’.
Dr Mahesh Kulkarni, a surgeon at the hospital, told ANI that the hospital has diagnosed 70 cases correctly as they have matched with their medical diagnoses.

The bizarreness doesn’t end there, though. The hospital is also planning to introduce ‘vedic treatment’ along with homeopathy and Ayurveda, and hire nurses to perform prayers for the patients’ health.
The Quint could not independently verify the claims of the doctor or the astrologer. Moreover, it isn’t clear whether the doctor or the astrologer have any medical degrees.
