1. Drug Dealer Gang Busted in Himachal Pradesh

On Monday, the police arrested four people for being part of a gang of inter-state drug suppliers, according to a report by The Tribune.

The accused were nabbed near the Kala Amb barrier in Uttarkashi with 2.75 kg opium hidden in a truck. They have been identified as Raju (27), Shankar Thapa (25), Naveen(28) and Bishen Singh (21).

Sirmaur SP Souyma Sambasivan said the accused had been supplying drugs to various states like Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttrakhand and Chandigarh for the past several months. The police received a tip-off about the truck carrying opium worth 10 lakh.

This was the third gang that has been busted in the past two months. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the accused.

2. Founder of Indian Paranormal Society Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances

Gaurav Tiwari, founder and CEO of the Indian Paranormal Society, spent a large part of his life dedicated to unraveling mysteries of the unknown. His death, however, is shrouded in a mystery of its own.

On Thursday morning, Tiwari was found dead in the bathroom of his flat in Dwarka. There was a thin black line across his neck. Though police suspect his death is a case of suicide, his family said that he had complained to his wife of “a negative force pulling him towards it.”

Tiwari, a commercial pilot by training, had visited over 6,000 ‘haunted’ locations and investigated paranormal activities, ‘UFO abductions’ and ‘mysterious creatures’, according to the society’s website.

3. Woman Booked Under POSCO for Allegedly Luring Teen into Rape

A 26-year-old woman has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act after a 17-year-old boy, whom she accused of raping her, alleged that she lured him into the act, according to a Business Standard report.

A rape case was also registered against the teen, police said on Monday.

We received a call on Sunday afternoon from a woman, that she had come to a hotel with a boy. She said that she had been sexually assaulted.

The two had recently gotten to know each other through a social networking site. The boy mistook the woman for one of his friends, but when he realised she was a stranger, he revealed his age to her and they continued to be in touch regularly.

4. Police Identify Drug Abuse ‘Spots’ in Hisar Universities

A drive against drugs by the police exposed spots on three university campuses in Hisar which are suspected to be hubs for drug users, according to a report by The Tribune.

The police investigation led to an evidence of drug abuse at several spots in Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) and Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST).

Police have released photographs of these ‘spots’ which show leftovers of silver paper, candles, lighters, syringes, wrappers of banned drugs and empty bottles.

The universities have ruled out drug use on campuses, claiming that outsiders could be using the secluded spots for illegal activities.

5. 71-Year-Old Murdered, Domestic Help Prime Suspect

On Monday evening, a 71-year-old lady was murdered in her Kalkaji home in Delhi, according to a Hindustan Times report.

The police received a call about the murder at around 7.20 pm from Harneet Kaur, who is a resident of Kalkaji’s E Block. She saw the victim’s house open, with the rooms reportedly ransacked. Family told the police that Rs 70,000-80,000 worth of jewellery and cash was missing.

The family had sacked two domestic helps 20 days ago and their present help was bathing when the incident took place.

According to the police, it seems to be the work of an insider, who would have been aware of the family’s whereabouts at the time of the incident.

6. Four People Injured as Eleven Vehicles Pile Up in Crash

Four people were injured when a bus hit a motorcycle, and caused eleven vehicles to pile up in Delhi’s Bijwasan area, near Kapashera, according to a Hindustan Times report.

According to the police, the driver jumped out of a moving bus when he thought he crushed a motorcyclist under the wheels. The driver-less bus subsequently hit a WagonR, whose driver also jumped out to save his life.

All the vehicles that piled up were severely damaged, however most of their occupants escaped unscathed. Passersby helped victims out of their vehicles, with only four needing to be hospitalised. The others were released after preliminary medical attention.

7. 35 Juvenile Inmates Flee After Clash

On Monday, tension gripped the Government Observation Home for Boys in Chennai after clashes took place between two groups that resulted in 35 inmates fleeing from the premises, reported The Hindu.

After almost two hours, four of the boys returned only to slash their own necks with sharp objects to escape disciplinary action. By nightfall, 29 of the boys who ran away came back.

A hoard of policemen were deployed onto the premises soon after the clash. Ambulances with paramedics rushed to the home to treat the injured. Anxious parents demanded to know the status of their children.

8. Youths Assaulted by Policemen Who Claim Provocation

A group of five men were assaulted by policemen, who claim that their car was flagged down at a picket near Najafgarh by the men, according to a report by The Hindu.

They had injuries to show as proof of the beating they received. Surender Kumar, the South-West DCP said that the police had been provoked by the boys who verbally abused the policemen before tearing their uniforms.

However, neither side filed an FIR as no one suffered any grievous injuries. A senior police official also alleged that the boys had been found drinking in their vehicle.

9. Teenage Girl Gang-Raped by Four Youths

A 17-year-old girl from Vasai, Mumbai was allegedly gang-raped by four youths, police said on Monday.

Two of the accused have been arrested and the police are on the lookout for the other two. The incident took place on 6 June. The men forcibly took the girl to a lodge in Vajreshwari in Thane district.

At the lodge they forced her to drink beer and took turns to rape her, after which they dropped her home at 11 pm that night. One of the accused was a friend of the victim’s.
